Building Sustainable Future for Protected Areas in Serbia

Building Sustainable Future for Protected Areas in Serbia – the project aim was to create a sustainable and replicable mechanism for stakeholders’ partnership – based on the strengthened and recognized role of CSOs – able to mobilize diversified resources in ensuring environmental protection. As such, this project builds local capacities for the design, planning and management of sustainable development by mainstreaming the practice of LEADER through Local Action Groups-LAGs in rural areas. This action recognises policy and practice-based objectives: a) Enables the public to influence the decisions of stakeholders in the field of environmental protection, especially through the key role of CSOs; b) To create a model for the establishment of public, private and CSO partnership as bottom-up local action groups (LAGs) in function of strategic planning of Djerdap and Fruška Gora. The two main results achieved by this project consisted in: Policy recommendations created based on EU best practices; Two local action groups (LAG) formalized (Djerdap and Fruška Gora) as a public-private partnership. EcoDev educated SME’s in the field of rural tourism to work on sustainable tourism principles. The project was supported by the Regional Cooperation Council REC Serbia
