EIAT Conference was held on 18. and 19. November in Novi Sad

Regional Conference on Biodiversity, Carbon Neutral Tourism and Local Economic Development, took place at the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.

The Conference was attended by Bojana Nedeljkovic, EcoDev’s tourism consultant.

The aim of the EIAT Conference was to raise awareness of the diversification and the rural economy through the carbon neutral tourism and finding solutions for financial sustainability of protected areas, in the region of Southeast Europe, according to the new development Agenda 2030 of the United Nations, and the goals of sustainable development.

The Executive Director of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Mr. Marcio Favilla, participated at the Conference. He stressed the importance of sustainable development at the global level, indicated that Serbia has all support of UNWTO, for implementing the strategy of sustainable development of tourism.

Highly inspirational speeches were also presented by Ms. Isabel Cristine de Azevedo Heyvaert, Ambassador of Brazil in Serbia, Ms. Kathe Brakhan, Project leader for German International Cooperation (GIZ) and Prof. Slobodan Unkovic, PhD ,Vice President of the National Council for Tourism Development in Serbia.
